Our Summer: Bike Rides, Backyards + Coffee Beans

Striding strong and standing tallI, I pressed my hips through all the home from our online Barre Class. Enjoying the walk, I attended to fleeting thoughts. By the time I got home I knew the thing that I could be doing next — writing this week’s blog. Until recent months, our letter was sent out every week, and now that we are settling into a bi-weekly campaign, I feel that I am out of practice. Upon arriving home, I delayed my writing session, and decided to move — opting to practise my pull-ups and dips in the back yard instead.

The next day, as Lauryn latched the buckle on her helmet, and I took my final sip of The Lift. I looked into the back yard, and finally leaned in to writing this piece — Backyards, Bike Rides + Coffee Beans: The Barres and Bells 2022 Summer Recap

Bike Rides

For three years running, we culminate our early spring and summer sessions on the bike with a long distance, cross county pursuit. This year, we traveled 435 kilometres through the escarpment to Niagara Falls, and along the shores of Lake Erie to Port Dover. Catch up with us from moments on the road with this YouTube #shorts playlist.

Backyards

Our backyard continues to provide us with inspiration to practice our favourite movement skills, while also providing opportunities for our least favourite gardening task — weeding. However, even the weeds had a tough time taking control this year. Locally, we have had very little precipitation, and combined with intense heat, the vegetable garden produced a disappointing yield. Even our tomatoes haven’t turned red yet. We look forward to putting the garden to bed soon, and rebooting our efforts next year. Until then, there will be lots of garlic. Pictured here are ten of the one hunderd and eighteen cloves we planted last fall and harvested in mid July.

Coffee Beans

Just the other week, we appeared online in Guelph Today. Offering our coffee for a cause, early this spring we decided to champion healthy active initiatives in our community and the Guelph to Goderich Rail Trail. We look forward to establishing connections within our community and with others along the trial. To read more, or to support the G2G, click here.
