Lauryn Conlon
Earning the honours in our strength circles of completing “Sinister” and earning the title of “Iron Maiden”, Lauryn loves her kettlebell practice and her favourite skill is the The Get Up. The handstand is an exercise skill that continues to challenge, inspire and guide her exploration and mastery of bodyweight and calisthenic skills.
Outside of the exercise in the studio, Lauryn is an avid runner, gardener, beer drinker and organizational wizard. Kettlebells and bodyweight exercises provide the strength and endurance for all of her pursuits outside of the gym. Join a class, book a session and enjoy your time with Lauryn as her infectious laugh, positive energy and superwoman strength help guide your movement practice for a lifetime exploration of strength and joy.
Why just take a picture of a landscape when you could take a hand-scape
Ian Conlon
Sitting idle is not one of Ian’s skills. Dreaming and exploring new ways to move, preparing and sharing things to eat and connecting his passions for fitness, community and unique experiences guide Ian contributions to LIFT Guelph and the newest endeavour: Barres and Bells.
Every activity has specialized techniques, and the professionals are masters of the basics. The basics and finding the right regressions for skills is important for progress and enjoyment of the process of performance.
Exploring new skills such as the bent press, or improving ballet technique on the barre, he believes that it is important for everyone to practice the hard skills of strength and soft skills of movement.
About Us
Whave been connected though movement for twelve years. In the fall we are celebrating our seventh anniversary. Our experience in business is now into its sixth year. We took over an office space and turned it into a training facility and have undergone renovations to improve the infrastructure and the function of the building according to our vision. We seek ways to challenge our bodies with our movement and our business with new opportunities for renovation and repair. We have a wonderful group of tenants who let us continue to LIFT upstairs as we create our Barres and Bells online platform. Without the occupants and friends who visit us in this space, nothing else would be possible.
Using technology like our website and YouTube, sharing our lives online continues to be a great exercise in the importance of learning the basics, dreaming about the future and being prepared for change. Barres and Bells is a product of our adaptability to share our passions for health and strength with an online audience. Our commitment to our studio highlights our need for the preservation of the physical spaces and our wish to make our studio a destination in the community for those who live and visit our city. We will utilize digital resources to navigate the challenges ahead and we will continue our movement and strength practice with current and future members of our online community.
Our Vision
Built in 1903
We have told the story for 6 years as “20 Douglas” continues to stand proud. Join us as a patron of the building and a builder of community. Preserve History + Prepare for the future.
The advancements of technology make it possible to reach a wide audience with the same passions for movement and visions for the future of our real world and virtual spaces. Our first business is called LIFT Guelph, and our emerging online brand is Barres and Bells. Both names demonstrate our passions for the places we live and the things we love to share with people. We want LIFT Guelph to transition into reimagining our street to fulfill a more sustainable, pedestrian friendly place to live downtown.
Our downtown is a place for people to live, play, and engage with everybody in the local community. LIFT Guelph will transition from training bodies and minds to building community and a sustainable future. We commit to learning the basics and to not rush our approach. Our home at 20 Douglas will be a place to preserve the architecture, history and will carefully archive the past while preparing our community for a strong and prosperous future.
Lauryn and I will always LIFT Guelph. Together we are committed to growing our online services. As we develop the ways to reach a new audience, we want to have our bricks and mortar location of LIFT Guelph to be a destination in the real world.
Built in 1903, the building is 6000 square feet. With a parking lot of about 3000 square feet more out the back, we want to grow our impact on the community by providing a mixed use building maintains its timelessness while incubating growth for the local and global community for the next 100 years. We are amazed by the transformation of local buildings in Guelph, and those across the world as we try to modernize with the comforts of new spaces while respecting and preserving the beauty, style and pride of our predecessors.
There is a housing crisis in Ontario and a provincial mandate to Grow urban spaces while protecting the Green Belt. Locally our mayor has advocated for a car free down town and is considering pilots to gauge the feasibility of such an undertaking.
Our building on our street will remain one of the oldest Streets in Guelph, while modernizing and defining new ways to shop, live and play downtown.
